We believe that sexual health is a lifelong right for all.

As a nursing instructor, one of my primary goals is to prepare students to provide compassionate, informed, and inclusive care to every patient they encounter. When my students were placed at a clinical site where they would be caring for individuals with intersex traits, I recognized the importance of equipping them with accurate, respectful, and up-to-date information. That's where EmpowerED made all the difference. EmpowerED partnered with me to develop an engaging and educational presentation tailored specifically to student nurses. Their support helped introduce students to the wide spectrum of intersex variations and the critical importance of using affirming and appropriate language. They also highlighted outdated and potentially harmful terminology, creating space for thoughtful discussion and reflection. Most importantly, EmpowerED centered the lived experiences of intersex folx, which deeply impacted my students’ understanding and empathy. Thanks to EmpowerED, my students entered their clinical site more prepared, more sensitive, and more confident in their ability to provide quality care to intersex individuals.
